Love this stuff. Second bottle. I like the unique clean smell. Not over powering and NOT that wossy sweet smell so much of the others have. Not over powering too. Nicks and cuts it will nail you sometimes though!!!!!! It has grown on my wife as at first she was not so sure of the smell, now she really likes it!!!! Daughter in laws, ladies at the post office, and other places I frequent comment often on it. My favorites at the bank tell me I am the best smelling customer they have!!

When I was a kid the barber would shave my neck with a straight razor after my hair cut and slather on the Bay Rum. When I got home my Dad would always say, "Where the hell have you been? The tag on the bottle says it can't bring back the days of the Cow Town Girls. I beg to differ. This stuff smells like a worn out Cow Town Girl. Way too strong on the Clove and Citrus. Best use it to put it on before a shower and hope the soap cuts it away. It may have some drain cleaning effect as well.
More of a hippie aroma than I was expecting.

This stuff will make grown men swear and women scream with it's over powering and eye watering pungency. The stuff is WAY too strong. On the bottle it says to splash it on generously. I put a about a capful in my hand and applied it to my neck, beard and the back of my head on the hair. Where it touched bare flesh, it instantly started to tingle. That tingle soon turned into a full blown burn. Now, I'm a man with a tough hide. Gasoline and other solvents don't bother me much except to dry out my skin a little. This stuff felt like battery acid had gotten on me. And the stink!! I put it on just before heading out to church last Sunday. By the second hymn, my wife told me we had to leave because she was getting such a bad headache. Imagine how I was feeling if being near me was giving her a headache. I went home to try washing it off. Yea, right. This stuff sticks to a fella. It's been 5 days now and my bathroom still reeks of the odor. And the scent is clove and only clove. If you think a cloved ham smells like a man, then by all means, buy this stuff because that what it stinks like. I would return it, [...]. Instead, I'll pass it on to my brother-in-law. His wife has been looking for a way to keep him from cheating on her. No woman could come near someone wearing this so I'd be doing her the favor.

I mist this scent on every morning after showering (using a simple plastic spray container) and I'm ready to go and face the world! The ladies in the gym very much like the aroma. Most folks say it reminds them of days gone by when their fathers would return home after a visit to the barber shop (remember those). The Ogallala bay rum has a truly refreshing and pleasant aroma that most people seem to like and I would recommend it. I'd prefer that it have a longer lasting fragrance but it's easy enough to just spray some more on if desired. All things said, it's a very nice product.

I love it but the wife says it has a smell like cooking at Christmas. One drawback is the bottle has not dispenser ie, the large opening causes you to often times pour more out than you need.

When I was a kid around four or five years old I remember standing at the bathroom sink watching my grandfather sharpen his straight razor, brush the soap cream on his face, and deftly running the straight razor down and around his face.

After he finished he would look at me and smile and say, " Buddy, this is the last thing you do after shaving. All the women love this stuff because it's a real man's smell."

With that he pick up this blue bottle and dump a good amount in his hands and patted his face all over with the secret contents that were kept inside. The last thing he would do would be to pat my face down with the residue which remained on his hands.

This is a favorite memory of mind. One of my most cherished moments with a man who had raised me most of my life. This blue bottle I recently purchased from Duluth is the same real mans smell my grandfather preach to me about.

Thanks, Duluth for bringing me back to a favorite time and place which was only a fond memory but now the memory has grown even fonder.

If you want that "old time barber" experience, give this stuff a try. The fragrance is not overpowering and it works very well as an aftershave. I use the product daily, and it is simply outstanding! It is smooth (Witch Hazel) and smells good. One downside is the dispenser bottle it comes in. It is too easy to waste when pouring into your hand. A plastic stopper with a small hole in it, embedded into the opening of the bottle would be a big improvement.

This is an excellent value in an old-time, nostalgic cobalt blue bottle. The scent is composed not just of bay leaves, but has 11 different fragrance notes, 9 of which are composed of oils, not synthetics. The price could understandably be twice, even three times higher.
The initial bay rum scent is subtly modified by citrus notes and spice notes of cinnamon, clove and wintergreen, taking on a very refreshing, invigorating, and cooling property. The newly created scent becomes unique--nothing else smells like it!
It is a bit of americana still in existence and is excellent for oneself, as well as a gift. As the advertisement says, "...how bay rum used to smell!" And this is nothing but very positve!

I have always been curious about "Bay Rum" Cologne. For years, I have heard stories about it as being an old time lotion that guys used to wear. I have never seen it much in stores because it is not as popular as in former times. I had also heard the story about how the cowboys used to use it after getting cleaned up after the cattle drives. Being an Historian, this got my curiosity up as to what it was like. When I saw Ogallala Bay Rum advertised in the Duluth catalog I figured now was my chance to try it.

I was pleased with what I found. The lotion is a very "natural" product and is made up of Bay Leaves, Cloves and several other herbal ingredients. The scent is a down to earth, clean scent and is nothing like the perfumed concoctions you find from the cosmetic offerings. The scent is "different" from what you might expect but it is bracing and has a nice smell to it. I like it very much and will continue to use it. The only possible complaint I might have, and I am only mentioning this in passing, is that nobody has said anything to me, either positive or negative about it. So, I am not certain that anybody has been able to smell it on me. So, I'm not sure if that is a good or bad thing. Regardless, I like it, it has a nice pleasant natural smell and I will continue using it. Overall, I would recommend this to anybody who is looking for an after shave lotion that is for guys who don't want to smell, to use an old wild west term, like a perfumed parlor snake!

It seems to have an unpleasant "side effect" scent that competes with the bay rum scent, almost "soapy" smelling. It also wears off quickly. It's ok, but I've seen and used better bay rum after-shaves or cologne.

The first bottle of cologne I ever bought was named W. C. Fields and it was guaranteed to keep children and dogs away. Actually, it smelled pretty good. I was nineteen at the time, and it lasted two years. Since then, I have probably purchased three other bottles of cologne. I turn sixty in August. This Ogallalah Bay Rum provides not only a subtle-but-manly smell, it works great as an after shave. Not only that, but I occasionally massage it into my scalp and it makes my hair manageable without stickiness or shininess.

I love the smell and the blue bottle, but the cap/bottle top makes it hard to control the amount of liquid that comes out. I took a plastic cap with a foldable spout from another bottle and put it on the bay rum bottle, and it works like a charm.
