lucky thing i already have tinnitus as one good blast on this whistle is about the equivalent of standing in front of the monitors at a rock concert. this is what would make it useful to me as i would only use it in defensive situations, after dark, when i have to walk blocks to get home.

This Storm Whistle makes it very comfortable for me as my wife walks our dogs in an area congested with Black Bear and other wildlife. It also is a great warning to other people to stay clear of the wildlife as well. I love the piece of mind that it provides by knowing the Mrs. has a way to scare off all the critters in the area.

Dogs come running no matter where they are or what they are doing when they hear this whistle. It would be hard not to hear, so I would cover my ears before giving it a blow!

I bought this for hiking (esp. to drive away
hostile dogs) but gave it to daughter when she
moved to big city. A cop told me this is better
than mace because it can't be used against you.
It is EXTREMELY LOUD and you MUST hold your ears
before using it. Now I'm buying a replacement
for me, and one for daughter #2.

I use this whistle on the job. Safety is #1 and this is a great way to get people's attention to point out a hazard. Since I've never been able to whistle through my teeth this is a perfect product for us who are "whistling challenged".

Based on the dimensions in the ad, I was concerned about the whistle being too big. It is not. I bought three of them. I keep one with my hunting gear, one with my hiking gear and one in my car. The comments about it being the loudest whistle you can buy are a truism. Great safety product.

My mother bought my brother and I these to use while looking for Indian artifacts in S. Texas desert, where we often be come separated in the cactus and mesquite.
It saved me once from a charging bull. I had no where to run, started blowing the whistle and the bull stopped dead in its tracks and then started running away.

I am using the whistle for kayaking mainly, but the dogs respond to it immediately as well. Law requires a whistle be attached to your PFD when you are on the water. This is by far the best whistle. The sound carries a great distance. I gave one of the whistle to a fellow-kayaker. It gets your attention.

The reason for my purchase of theses whistles is that my son purchased 115 acres of wooded land for camping with his family. My son has two small boys 6 and 8,I was concerned that the boys may get separated from there parents while hiking. Now each of the boys have a survival whistle and their parents also have one encase they get lost they will be able to find one another.

I live in Lake Tahoe along side natures wonderful creatures. I frequently am visited by bear cubs and their mothers at home and while hiking. The whistles' shreik deters the bears from coming too close. I also carry one in my car as mountain roads can be treachous and the shriek can be heard clearly. I've given several as gifts

Years ago when I started on the force I was issued a brass police whistle. This whistle is amazingly louder. Now retired, I carry this whistle in the event of an attack to call for help. I use it as my key chain and it is easy to find in my purse. I've given a number of these to friends and family as gifts and they all love the whistle.

I bought this saftey whistle for my daughter and her roommate at college. It was small enough not to be too bulky in a purse or backpack and not too big to hang on a key chain.

I purchased Storm Safety Whistles for my daughter & granddaughter to try to keep them safe in the big city. They wear them on a lightweight chain around their necks or on their belts. If you are in trouble, blow the whistle and yell "Fire" and people will stop to help you.

I successfully use the Storm whistle to get inmediate attention in several places like a roaring gym (with many homerooms present), the outdoor field with students at play all over, or during situations when the discipline & tolerance bubble could potentially snap.
It is definitedly an attention getter. Several Pricipals & VPs have already asked me to get them one.

It depends on your need: can get wet yet still has "pea" for traditional sound. Bigger and more rugged yet light. Consider Fox 40 too if you like conventional shape. Much better than old chrome ones.

On the last Troop Camporee we had a whistle off. Rarely do the boys get to try their whistle in action so to demonstrate how powerfull a tool they had in hand we tested the whistles to see which one was the loudest. Hands down the Storm Whistle got everyones attention.
