Has a learning curve but does the job. I went to youtube for a tutorial and the locksmith is sitting in the back of a van full of picking tools. He picked up this item and said it was his favorite. Good enough for him, good enough for me.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

This isn't a MAGICAL pick. It's a manual pick that is good for "all around use" I find that it works well with File cabs, computer locks and desk drawers. This is the first pic i have owned or used and I feel that if I spent more time with it, I would be able to open more complicated locks. If you get this, by all means practice on some simple locks at least before you really need it.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

Okay, I'll admit it. I always wanted to try one of these things. It appears well made and the design is pretty good too. I tried it a few times on one of our entry doors & I couldn't get it to work. I probably should try an easier lock first and I'll do that when I get around to it. Maybe our entry locks are good ones like the locksmith said. I don't know. Anyway, I guess that new career of locksmith or safe cracker or burglar is out for me. Others have posted here and there that this thing works albeit with some practice. I really do think its me in this case so I gave it 4 stars because it seems to be a quality item. That's all Duluth sells so I have to give it the benefit of the doubt.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

I like gadgets and tools so I ordered this. From what I understand, if you're serious about picking locks there are several other more specialized tools out there to get the job done. Different types of locks may require a different tool and techniques. The instructions that come with it are a little vague, so I did some research to try and understand how locks work and how to pick them. I have practiced with it and succeded in opening up a few simple locks. For me, it's a fun challenge to tool around with this pick. I don't regret buying it.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

While the Duluth Catalog Ad makes this seem a very simple item to use, this is not quite the case. It takes a certain feel and much practice to get it to "click" (pun intended) or a few months of locksmith class. But if you take the time necessary and practice and practice some more, it will work and just one use for a lockout more than pays for the item. It's a worthy addition to your tool bag of tricks. I am not a professional locksmith nor am I a burglar or thief!

Bottom Line:

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

Not a very sturdy product. I really don't like how the clip is also tension piece. I couldn't pick any lock in my apartment. I think I would easily break this if I really tried to apply some force. An experienced locksmith could probably use this tool, but if you are a novice like me, this is not the tool for you. Also, the instruction "booklet" that comes with it is nothing more than a piece of paper with some crude instructions and illustrations. No real help at all.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

Opening locks without keys is a skill requiring dexterity, a delicate touch, and plenty of luck and patience. Despite being advertised as a quick and easy tool, you will still need skill, luck and patience to get this to work. However, it is neat, compact, and inexpensive enough to toss in a toolbox.

The movies make everything look easier and this is no exception. It took me hours of monkying around to get my first lock. After that I went through 5 locks within a ten minute period. It is just a matter of playing around and learning a method that works for you. The only real problem I have with this item is that there is a screw that allows you to change the rake out that works its way out too often.. Super Glue took care of that real quick.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

I am good with tools. This item is advertised as a "lock pick". Well, it may be one but I have yet to get it to work on a single lock. After 20 minutes on the last lock without being able to open it, the "lock pick" now sits on a dresser in my room, where it will probably stay until it is consigned for all eternity to my "Junk Drawer of Eternal Delights".

My recommendation is "Save your money, buy an extra key."

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

This is a good first lock pick for simple locks. I bought this because I lost the keys to my desk when I was in the office. The desk locks were absolutely no match for it; I was into the desk in seconds! I showed our office manager how to use it; she said it was easier than the method they were currently using and I believe she ordered one. Better quality locks are more difficult and require web research and practice, practice, practice! Now that I'm back on the company boats, it still comes in handy to unlock the occasional stateroom door---

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

During moving, an old file cabinet lock was pushed in and locked. After calling around for professional help, and being disappointed, I saw this lock pick online.
Within a few moments of receiving my tool, I had the lock open. Even if I never use the lock pick again, it cost less than a visit by the locksmith.
The "wrench" and the "pick" are both sturdy. That's a mixed blessing. Some key-slots may be too thin (narrow) for this tool.
For me, it worked great!!!

I was a little nervous I wouldn't be able to make it work as described, but with a little practice I was able to get the feel for the tool. It really was as easy as they said!

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

The tool is great, easy to carry and easy to use. I thought there would be a loss of feeling due to the pick and handle not being one peice but not at all, you can feel every tumbler. The torque wrench is a bit thick and can be a bit difficult to fit into some lock keyholes, especially European lock keyholes . Also I found that you can not use the torque wrench as a pocket clip even though it looks like it is supposed to be. Aside from that this is a great tool and I will not leave home without it. Even an untrained person should be able to open their front door in about 20 minuts, with a little practice.

Comments about Duluth Trading Lock Pick:

Not to be picky the lock opening is tricky. Useful when locking oneself out whether house or car. Easy to hold except when it's cold. Helful for lock boxes and luggage. Not sure it would be strong enough for some jobs.
