Lieutenant Sam Browne of the 36th Bengal Native Infantry was rumored to be the inventor of it around 1861: a thick leather belt with an over-the-shoulder support and an attachment for a sword or gun sling. From the British and U.S. Army to the Canadian Mounties, it's been a uniform staple for decades. Our version is beefy cowhide, (sans shoulder strap) with a double-prong roller brass buckle and a lockdown keeper strap with brass ring. Perfect for modern-day swashbucklers who need a place for keys and other accoutrements.

Comments about Men's Sportsman Belt:

This belt is one of my favorite belts to look at. But actually wearing it is another matter, and here's why: the makers of it decided to make the thing out of TWO separate pieces of leather about 12" from the tip (you can kind of see this in the illustration of the belt). The problem this presents is not evident when putting the belt on, but when taking it off, the raised second piece of leather catches in every single belt loop, all the way around. This makes me much less likely to wear the belt in the first place. But for this design defect, I'd be giving this belt 5 stars like everyone else.

Great work belt, holds up well with all belt tools added to it. Leather thick enough that the edges do not roll.

Comments about Men's Sportsman Belt:

I first saw this belt in "Garden and Guns" in a back issue ( fall 2008) along with several others. I was immediately attracted to its looks showing quality leather and good workmanship. I decided right then it had to be my birthday present (Feb 2009) for the year, When it arrived I was not disappointed. It is quality leather, tough for my horse back riding activities in the nearby Hichcook Woods, but elegant enough to wear to our local Aiken polo games. I have numerious comments from my riding budies about where I found it. So I tell them Duluth trading Co. and they can't believe it as they expected some fancy saddle shop in Lexington, KY. ( I haveone of theirs -too). Anyway I like the belt and wear it offen. The saber loop is an extra added bit of history as I am a retired LTC and recognize it utility. Additionally leared to ride form an old calvery Col. in San Antoino TX, back in 1969. A place in Sam Huston and Sam Bouie's history as well. Great belt.

Comments about Men's Sportsman Belt:

When our 21-year-old said that he needed a new belt, he had a specific one in mind. "It has a double-prong roller, it's heavy leather and it has a place for a sword."

Young but ever seeking the spirit of those about to enter battle, our son is learning early about the "heft" of a supple leather jacket and the comfort of an extra long T-shirt.

For our son, belts don't just hold up your pants -they define who you are by the buckle or weight of the leather, ease of fastening, strength and durability.

The fact that this particular belt has that military feel and Sam Browne sheek was a perfect fit for our son and I'm sure for many men - both young and old - that want to make a statement about not only what they've strapped around their waists but all that it says about their character and savvy sense of adventure.

While he doesn't have a saber attached, he certainly has the spirit of a warrior as he tackles each day.

His was a Christmas present but any time of year is fine for giving or buying this belt for yourself.

It's a winner in more ways than just holding up your pants.
